Freedom and technology: who's the master?
This event took place on 26th February 2009 at 12:00pm (12:00 GMT)
Berrill Lecture Theatre, The Open University, Walton Hall Campus, Milton Keynes, United Kingdom
From CCTVs to iPhones, technology is increasingly designed to control humans -- to minimize individual power, rather than amplifying it. Whether the reason given is fighting terrorism, paedos, piracy or crims, the answer is always the same: punish the innocent to get at the guilty. And if the guilty slip away? More control! It needn't be this way -- opening our technology makes us freer, safer, richer and happier.
