CHARITABLE DONATION GIVES BOOST TO TEACHER TRAINING IN AFRICA
This event took place on 17th June 2005
Berrill Lecture Theatre, The Open University, Walton Hall Campus, Milton Keynes, United Kingdom
Children and teachers from primary schools in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, who have been participating in the OU?s Digital Education Enhancement Project (DEEP) will also speak about their experiences at the event at the Open University on 17 June via a video link.
Since 2001, DEEP has utilised the OU?s method of open supported learning to research how state of the art, mobile technologies can improve teaching and learning (particularly of literacy, science and numeracy), in rural, poor communities. Over 60 teachers and more than 2000 pupils from schools in Cairo and the Eastern Cape of South Africa have been involved in the research project to date. Every teacher in the project has been using a hand held computer and each project school has been provided with a laptop, all-in-one printer, scanner, photocopier, together with a small budget for ink and connectivity. |
