The problem with the term evaluation is that we often associate it with some external body or individual making judgements about the efficacy, productivity or value of what we are doing, using criteria over which we have no control, asking questions, the legitimacy of which we might question. Sometimes we associate it with the rather ritualistic completion of 'happy sheets' of dubious diagnostic value. This presentation will argue that we can understand and use evaluation rather differently. It is possible to engage in evaluative practice in such a way that we can not only see its value, but harness it for our own developmental purposes.
