HEA Workshop and Seminar Series 2012-13
Developing internships and work based learning opportunities for mature students
This event took place on 31st October 2012 at 10:30am (10:30 GMT)
The seminar will provide an opportunity to consider the particular needs of mature students when universities attempt to develop employability supporting opportunities through internships and work based learning modules. The seminar will consider the difficulties in developing employability opportunities for those who may already be working in low paid employment and for those with non-traditional educational histories.
The seminar will focus on:
-
internships in the third sector as providing opportunities for career changers
-
work based learning modules within the field of working with young people as support for career development
-
the notion of maximising opportunity and raising aspirations for mature students
-
the issue of developing employability skills through working experiences for those from non-traditional educational backgrounds.
The event will be of value to university policy makers and practitioners interested in developing a collaborative approach to the provision of internships in smaller organisations, those supporting employability for mature students in a range of disciplines, and those supporting the employability and social mobility of students from a diversity of backgrounds.
