This event took place on 1st November 2011
Berrill Lecture Theatre, The Open University, Walton Hall Campus, Milton Keynes, United Kingdom
The OU is a world leader in teacher education. The principles established for initial teacher education in 1992 have influenced programmes in the UK and internationally for hundreds of thousands of teachers. The award-winning success of TESSA, English in Action's novel and effective use of mobile technologies, and the 'Outstanding' flexible PGCE are all justifiably praised - but there were wrong turns on the journey too.
Professor Banks' lecture will consider the nature of teacher professional knowledge, the benefits of open learning for changing classroom practice, the lessons learned in 'teaching teachers' and look to future possibilities.
