In this event we celebrate 20 years of Knowledge Media research and development at The Open University. Since 1995 KMi researchers have brought world-leading computing innovations via significant external funded projects to the real world challenges of learning and work.
As a corporate laboratory for the OU, with a 70 strong team, representing 18 world nationalities, it also works closely with lead Units such as IET and LTS to impact the University itself. Over 20 years, knowlege media technologies and innovations have flowed through to practice - from historical giants such as Lyceum, Stadium and Flashmeeting to currently hot systems such as Data.Open, Compendium, iTunes U, DiscOU, and now OUAnalyse and OUAlive.
The day will be opened by the OU's new Vice Chancellor, Peter Horrocks at 2pm (GMT+1). Special guests will include a return of key founders: Marc Eisenstadt, Tom Vincent and Kitty Chisholm and former OU Vice Chancellor Sir John Daniel.
Virtual and co-present event attendees are strongly encouraged to actively take part in the online live experience; for instance you can contribute questions to the panel session on the day by tweeting to @kmiou or using #kmiou.
We will then be showcasing KMi's current work in the Library from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
