Digitalisation is helping to facilitate the decarbonisation of the energy system. Smart meters and extensive monitoring is increasing the visibility of the energy networks and advanced analytics can enable new smart technologies to increase energy efficiency, adapt to individual consumer behaviour and optimise usage.
The talk will discuss a few topics:
-
Heat-as-a-service: The Energy Systems Catapult has used the living lab to investigate new ways to help decarbonise heat. I will briefly discuss the trial and some of the technical challenges.
-
Energy Data Taskforce: Data is vital to drive innovation and develop new business models, however this will require much more transparency and better access. Run by the ESC, the taskforce recently released a report with some of the findings and recommendations for the future energy data landscape. I will discuss some of the key outputs and future work.
-
Low Voltage Demand Forecasting: Forecasting is a vital component in order to optimise many smart grid applications. I will present an application of such forecasts within LV storage systems as well as a personal view on some of the challenges, shortcomings and requirements for future LV load forecasting.
