11-40 Ronaldo Mota Independent Learning: An educational strategy to prepare students for Innovation in Brazil

This paper attempts to present remarks about the Brazilian educational landscape with emphasis on the formation of professionals able to face the challenges associated with a world where innovation is a central priority for a sustainable social and economical development. A knowledge management scheme is presented and the traditional straight line connecting science, technology and innovation is proposed to be replaced by a circle, where innovation is simultaneously the end and the beginning of the creative process. The building of the school in Athens in IV century B.C., the book resulting from the invention of the printing press in XV century and the digital technologies nowadays are presented as the three elements symbolically representing the great educational revolutions and specific discussions are presented concerning the last one concerning their roles in our contemporary society. The independent learning methodology is presented here as an appropriate strategy to prepare students and to contribute to the formation of professionals able to face the challenges associated with a new Brazilian scene where innovation and entrepreneurship are central priorities.
