Centre for Widening Participation Research Seminar
Widening Participation for Mature Students: Reaching out, moving on or getting nowhere?
Dr Marion Bowl

This event took place on 21st July 2010 at 1:00pm (12:00 GMT)

In this session I will reflect on 15 years’ involvement in practice and research around mature students entering higher education. I will discuss how adult students have fared in widening participation policy. I argue that, in the face of neoliberal education policies, committed practitioners need to shift the focus of their activities from entry to higher education to a more broadly-based defence of adult education – for personal, social and political, as well as economic ends.
