Inaugural Lecture

Doubly secret history and the modernism of mathematics

Prof. Brenda Gourley, Professor Jeremy Gray
This event took place on 16th February 2005
Berrill Lecture Theatre, The Open University, Walton Hall Campus, Milton Keynes, United Kingdom
Much of the life of modern mathematics is revealed in its history, and much of that history has been discovered in the last forty years. In particular, we can begin to see the arrival of modern mathematics as a cultural Modernism, and deepen our understanding of the nature of mathematics and its place in modern life.
