Tuesday 11 February: Dr Claire Burke, Astro-ecologist

Can astrophysics help save our planet?

Society is currently facing the massive global challenges of climate change, environmental pollution and biodiversity collapse, and the need to address these challenges has never been more urgent. Through interdisciplinary collaboration the astro-ecology project aims to bring new solutions through the application of cutting edge technology and techniques commonly used in astrophysics. I will discuss how drones, machine learning, infrared sensors and other technology is being used to help preserve our planet’s biodiversity and present some of our successful work on solving these problems so far.
