Jeff Z. Pan is a Lecturer of Computing Science at the University of Aberdeen, UK. He received the PhD degree in computer science from The University of Manchester in 2004, advised by Prof. Ian Horrocks on the topic of Description Logics reasoning support for the Semantic Web. His current research focuses primarily on the design of logics and ontology languages, scalable reasoning, query answering and semantic search, ontology reuse and usability, as well as the applications of all the above. He led The Aberdeen University's contribution to, e.g., the EPSRC LITRO project, the EU Knowledge Web and MOST projects and contributed to other key SW projects, such as the EPSRC AKT project and the EU WonderWeb project. Jeff Z. Pan chaired the Program Committee of the first ever international conference on Semantic Web reasoning - The First International Conference on Web Reasoning and Rule Systems (RR2007). He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Advances in Artificial Intelligence and on the Editorial Board of International Journal on Semantic Web and Information Systems (IJSWIS) as well as Journal of Emerging Technologies in Web Intelligence (JETWI). He co-chairs the OWLED Uncertainty Task Force and is a member of the RuleML Steering Committee. He was a co-chair of W3C Multimedia Semantics Incubator Group, and served as a co-coordinator of both the Software Engineering Task Force and the Multimedia Annotation on the Semantic Web Task Force in the W3C Semantic Web Best Practices and Deployment Working Group.
